Blue diamond prices up slightly in Q1, says FCRF

Prices of fancy colour diamonds remained stable across most categories in the first quarter of 2018, with fancy blue diamonds recording a moderate price increase, the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) reported.
 
According to the foundation, the Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) indicated an overall rise of 0.1 percent in Q1 2018 for fancy colour diamonds across all sizes and saturations.

In line with 2017 trends, prices of blue diamonds were up 1 percent during the period in review, with fancy intense and fancy vivid blues recording the most increase. Prices of yellow and pink diamonds, meanwhile, declined slightly by 0.1 percent.

In comparison, prices of yellow and pink diamonds declined by 0.6 percent and 0.4 percent respectively in Q4 2017.
 
Most notably, 2-carat vivid pink and blue diamonds showed the highest rate of appreciation in their respective colour categories in the first quarter of the year, revealed FCRF.
 
On a year-on-year basis, the FCDI in Q1 2018 increased by 0.1 percent, with prices of blue diamonds rising 5 percent and those of yellow and pink stones dropping 1.7 percent and 0.6 percent, respectively.
