Three of the gemstone and jewellery industry’s most influential players are returning as JNA Awards 2019 Headline Partners.

JNA Awards has unveiled its impressive list of Headline Partners in 2019, top-billed by Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd, Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) and Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE).

The KGK Group and Guangdong Land Holdings Ltd (GDLAND) also made a comeback as Honoured Partners while Shanghai Gems & Jade Exchange (CSGJE) came on board as a first-time Honoured Partner.

The JNA Awards is one of the most influential platforms and awards programmes in the international jewellery and gemstone industry, where inspiring success stories of the trade are recognised and celebrated, with the objective of encouraging and promoting excellence, best practises and innovations within the industry.

The partnership signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of the JNA Awards gala dinner in Hong Kong in September.

Letitia Chow, chairperson of the JNA Awards, founder of JNA and director of Business Development – Jewellery Group at UBM Asia Ltd, said, “We are very honoured to be able to work with partners who share the same vision and commitment to promote the advancement of the industry together. Their unwavering support is indispensable to the growth and success of the JNA Awards since its inception.”

Kent Wong, managing director of Chow Tai Fook, commented, “As an industry pioneer, Chow Tai Fook takes pride in supporting the JNA Awards as a Headline Partner for eight consecutive years. We firmly believe that sustainability is our priority. Through collaborating with our peers, we are able to strive together and drive prosperous developments that contribute to the greater success of the jewellery industry.”

Kenneth Scarratt, CEO of DANAT shared, “It is an honour to be a Headline Partner of the JNA Awards for 2018 and to have the opportunity to promote DANAT and the Kingdom of Bahrain to global leaders of the gem and jewellery industry on this elite platform. It is important that the gem and jewellery community works hard to continually elevate the practices and standards of this fine industry and the JNA Awards is certainly an important part of this international effort. DANAT extends its congratulations to the incredible individuals and companies recognised at the JNA Awards 2018 and looks forward to the next JNA Awards in 2019.”

Lin Qiang, president and managing director of SDE remarked, “SDE has had the privilege of witnessing the birth of the Awards from scratch, as well as the overwhelming hardships it has conquered to become a remarkable awards programme for the trade. As we usher in its eighth year, SDE will continue to work closely with the JNA Awards team and other related parties to bring this great Awards to a new level.”

“Teaming up with the JNA Awards has always been an overwhelming experience. KGK and the JNA Awards share the same vision, as well as core values that highlight the importance of innovation, creativity and best business practices. The JNA Awards will no doubt attain greater heights in the coming years,” shared Sanjay Kothari, vice chairman of the KGK Group.

Simon Chan, co-founder, member of the board and executive vice president of CSGJE, said, “2019 is a year of innovation and development for the gemstone industry in China. More creative designs and revolutionary business models are needed. By collaborating with JNA Awards 2019, we hope to continue driving the jewellery industry forward."

“GDLAND is looking forward to cooperating with the JNA Awards for the sixth consecutive year in 2019. Together with the Awards, we would like to explore and create new opportunities, and promote positive transformation in the jewellery industry,” Liu Zheng, deputy general manager of GDLAND concluded.

Building trust

Chow Tai Fook, the company behind diamond brand T MARK, blazed the trail yet again when it collaborated with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to use blockchain technology to deliver secure, digital diamond grading reports to consumers.

Buyers of T MARK diamonds will be the first to enjoy the premium diamond-grading service, which aims to provide a permanent blockchain record of the diamond’s GIA grading information. After its debut in selected Chow Tai Fook stores in Hong Kong, the service will expand to other locations by end-2018. “We are very proud of our cooperation with GIA. It gives our customers additional assurance and transparency, and the opportunity to have both diamond grading and traceability information at their fingertips,” Chow Tai Fook’s Wong said.

Under this programme, GIA diamond grading information for T MARK diamonds will be written directly on a block chain ledger shared by Chow Tai Fook and GIA. The customer, on the other hand, can access the diamond’s unique record with the use of the T MARK app.

A milestone for DANAT

DANAT has successfully placed the Kingdom of Bahrain on the map as an international hub for gemmological excellence in pearl and gemstone certification, as well as in research and education, just a year after the lab commenced operations.

As of July 2018, DANAT has tested over two million pearls and 23,000 gemstones from regional and international clients; and has produced more than 3,400 authentication and verification reports. DANAT has also established a private bonded warehouse facility, the first of its kind to be granted a licence by the Bahrain Ministry of Interior.

In addition, DANAT has joined key industry exhibitions around the world. It also secured a highly coveted position as Headline Partner of JNA Awards 2018.

Reflecting on DANAT’s breakthrough inaugural year, Scarratt said, “Since we have set a personal benchmark this year, 2019 will be an exciting year where we will build on our accomplishments and further enhance our products and services. We were pleasantly surprised with the tremendous support we have received, which is also testament to the hard work and dedication that the DANAT team puts in on a daily basis.”

SDE initiatives

SDE does not only work hard in its home base to uphold excellence, innovation and best business practices – common values it shares with the JNA Awards. This industry leader further extends its influence by collaborating with other organisations in the region.

SDE joined forces with the Macau China Diamond & Gem Exchange (MDGE) and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Macau) to conduct a trade briefing on the sidelines of the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2018. The event was held in line with a strategic cooperation agreement signed by the Macau Trade Promotion Bureau and SDE in June.

More than 100 international jewellery industry organisations and senior corporate representatives attended the event. Industry leaders discussed joint measures that they would undertake to promote the jewellery industry in Macau.

Through this partnership, MDGE will actively develop Macau’s rough diamond trading industry, which, in turn, could channel rough diamonds into SDE and ultimately result in the growth of the Chinese diamond industry as a whole.
