Exceptional jadeite jewellery pieces were the stars of Tiancheng International’s latest auction in Hong Kong, reinforcing the market’s strong appetite for the green gem.
The Tiancheng International Jewellery and Jadeite Autumn Auction 2019 in Hong Kong raked in a total of HK$108 million (around US$13.8 million), according to the auction house.
Among the top lots were a “very important jadeite bangle,” which sold for HK$45.6 million (around US$5.85 million); and a “Laughing Buddha” jadeite and diamond pendant, which fetched HK$19.2 million (around US$2.46 million).
More than 90 percent of the jadeite section were sold.
Wang Jie, managing director of Tiancheng International and Connie Huang, head of Tiancheng International’s Jewellery Department, commented, “The enthusiastic response reflects how our carefully curated sale of exquisite pieces appealed greatly to collectors. We witnessed enthusiastic bidding and a sold rate of over 90 percent for jadeite pieces, reaffirming the continuing strength of the jadeite market.”
